- Origami paper, glue, scissors, string, ribbon or strips of fabric (use what you have around the home)
METHOD:
- Source some Origami paper. A great place to look is Etsy or you can cut any type of paper into a square, such as colouring in paper, old books, musical paper, or you could even print or decorate on plain paper!

- Make a few in different sizes and colours to add variety to your tree, you could even try your hand at making really large ones by sourcing paper card in A3, A2 or A1 sizes.

DIY Alternative Christmas Tree Ideas
1. MINIMALIST WALL LIGHT CHRISTMAS TREE
Create a minimalist Christmas tree shape with lights by zig zagging them across the wall. Add extra decor if preferred.
2. WALL COLLAGE CHRISTMAS TREE
Mark out a Christmas tree triangle with masking tape and fill it in with baubles, photos, frames, lights and cards.
3. WOOD WALL HANGING CHRISTMAS TREE
Salvage wood and layer them in width order. Tie them together with jute twine or rope and decorate or use as a Christmas card holder.
4. DRIFTWOOD CHRISTMAS TREE
If you're near the coast go on a hunt for some driftwood and use it to create a free-standing or wall-hanging driftwood tree.
5. BOOK CHRISTMAS TREE

DIY Nordic Origami Paper Stars
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- 8 x square pieces of paper
- Scissors (if you need to cut paper into squares)
METHOD:
- Gather your paper: turn plain A4 paper into a squares or buy coloured paper card which is slightly thicker.
- Follow this great DIY video tutorial by Francois et Moi.
- Place around the home as mantle decorations or thread a needle and hang them.
- Try making them in different sizes in different colours!
Christmas Wreaths
DIY Eco-friendly Christmas Wreath
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
METHOD:
- Bend a metal coat hanger to create a circle or buy a wreath base (as above).
- Wrap up warm and and go for a walk to forage for your foliage, flowers, branches, berries, wood - get creative!
- Arrange and wrap your wonderful findings around the wreath and use jute twine or string to secure into place.
- Dried orange slices, cinnamon sticks and bunches of herbs that dry well like thyme and rosemary can be added for colour and an amazing Christmas scent.
- Enjoy your foraged Christmas wreath!
Christmas Garlands
DIY Clay Star Garland
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- Bowl, spoon, saucepan and rolling pin (or glass bottle)
- Cornstarch
- Baking soda
- Star cookie cutter
- Thin wire, twine (metal wire lights optional)
METHOD:
- Combine 125g of baking soda, 32g cornstarch and 170ml of water in a small saucepan and stir well.
- Bring to boil stirring constantly, then turn down to medium, keep stirring for about 5 or 6 mins until it turns thick and too hard to mix.
- Remove and let it cool in a bowl but cover with towel or plate as it dries quickly.
- Roll out onto floured surface and cut out your stars, if your clay is too sticky add more baking powder.
- Bake your stars on a tray at 170 for 2 hours.
- After they've cooled, wrap your twine or wire around the stars leaving gaps in-between.
- Voila - go decorate your mantel or Christmas tree!
