SIMBA is a renowned brand recognised for their award-winning hybrid mattresses, who have recently expanded their product line with the Earth Range mattresses, made with the environment in mind. The range are a top Best Buy in our Best Natural Mattresses Shopping Guide.
Of the 3 mattresses available in the range, The Apex mattress stands as the pinnacle, embodying the concept of a heavenly slumber by blending the most opulent natural materials with their exclusive patented technology.
Simba is well-known for their hybrid mattresses that utilise both memory foam and pocket spring support. However, with the Earth range, they've eliminated memory foam, mainly made from polyurethane plastic, and instead sourced the most exquisite natural materials, hand-tufted using traditional techniques in Yorkshire.
The fact that it’s foam free and made from upcycled and sustainable materials is all very much in alignment with what we promote at Zero Wasted so it's reassuring to know that I’m sleeping on something that’s good for the planet.
These materials provide exceptional cushioning and temperature regulation by being naturally breathable, allowing air to circulate freely for a more comfortable sleep.

The Earth Range offers 3 different price points for different needs and budgets. From £999 for a single Source mattress to £3,329 for a king Apex. I chose the Apex in a double to go on my new refurbished mango wood bed.
There's no denying these are an investment, but with a 10 year guarantee, you're going to get far more longevity and resilience compared to cheaper counterparts which last about 5 years on average as they develop sagging, loss of comfort and support more quickly. Despite higher initial cost, a quality mattress provides better value over time, and of course less emissions and waste!
You'll get free Next Day carbon neutral delivery service, which is a two-person delivery to room of choice, and you can select your preferred date at checkout. The mattress was delivered and my old one collected with their mattress recycling service which can be added as a delivery option at checkout.
The mattress is impressively weighty, a solid beauty. Upon unwrapping the squishy plushness looked immediately inviting, you can tell this is made to a superior standard. I was also able to pick up the scent of the wools, a suitable earthy experience. The top side was super soft and silky, which is made from a smooth blend of wool and plant-derived viscose. They recommend you let it air for 24 hours after taking it out of the packaging which I did and that wooly scent, while not unpleasant at all, subsided considerably.
So for the first lie down, there's always that initial anticipation with a new mattress where you're in Goldilocks mode - will it be too hard, too soft, or just right? Simba say the Earth Range are medium-firm hybrids and on my first try it really did feel like a perfect balance, a soft but substantial cushioning with a precisely balanced firm support underneath.
Rolling a bit from side to side theres absolutely none of that horrid reverb or 'bounciness' found in cheap mattresses. This is why spring tech is so important, you don't want to be sensing yourself or your sleeping partner moving on the mattress. The Apex feels like its quite literally got your back in this respect - perfectly supportive but gently cocooning.
The lack of disruptive ripple effect and motion transfer when you move on the mattress is down to Simba's patented Quadcore™ support system. It's different from other mattress springs in that they are connected in groups of 4 vs. rows or large groups.
I’ve had the Simba Earth Apex Mattress for a few weeks now, and let me tell you, it’s had a wonderful improvement on my sleep. Even from the first night, I could feel the difference sleeping right through. The support is phenomenal, but not too firm - I don’t stir when I turn in the night.
Whereas traditional spring connections often use glue (which can damage the springs and inhibit their movement), Simba use sonic welding, a method that connects the springs without damage, allowing them to move freely and individually, enhancing both durability and comfort. They really do the job, offering tailored support, distributing weight evenly and preventing any annoying pressure points. It’s like being gently cradled while still feeling supported.
The true luxury of the Apex comes in its cushioning layers, with British wool, RWS mohair, upcycled cashmere and organic peace silk all coming together to provide the most plush softness that genuinely make you feel like you're sleeping on a cloud. The parts of the mattress that look like dimples are actually tufts used in traditional mattress construction. They securely hold the layers together, preventing shifting and ensuring durability and comfort. You can see in my photos just how inviting those cloud-like tufts look!
Temperature control is a significant plus with the Earth Range. The wool in the top layers react to changes in the body's temperature so it will keep you cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter, retaining warmth while being breathable. Wool is also naturally resistant to bacteria, mould, and mildew, and is odour-resistant, as it can absorb moisture without feeling damp. Flax and hemp are also highly breathable materials so being that these make up the supportive layer adds to the overall air flow of the mattress.
To get your mattress settle in properly, you'll want to rotate it (not flip it) a few times in the first few months then just a couple of times a year thereafter. It has 2 handles on both sides, making it pretty straightforward. I've also added a mattress protector to mine as there isn't a removable/washable cover, though in my opinion a pull over protector is easier to wash than having to unzip an entire mattress cover.
Simba offers a 200 night trial period, allowing you to thoroughly test the mattress to ensure it meets your needs. A 10 year guarantee provides peace of mind and attests to the mattress's durability and quality. Simba has also won over 60 industry awards and is the most five-star rated mattress brand in the world - no small feat!
Simba are one of the forerunners when it comes to changing the mattress industry for the better. Here is a easy-to-digest overview of their efforts towards people and planet:
The Simba Earth Apex Mattress is notable for its blend of sumptuous natural materials and cutting-edge technology. It's a solid mattress that makes a worthy investment for individuals seeking eco-friendly comfort and premium craftsmanship.
